E-Government in Malaysia: Its implementation so far and citizen's adoption strategies

E-government is known as electronic government and initiative in Malaysia. It delivers information, knowledge and commerce in network to businesses and citizens to enable interactions between government and citizens. The existence of e-government will enhance the relationship between government and Malaysia citizens and also increase the quality of services in Malaysia.


E-government is still improving and implementing to give a better services and convenient facilities to Malaysia citizens. Our Malaysia e-government website is http://www.malaysia.gov.my/EN/Pages/default.aspx


Another website provided by government to ease Malaysia citizens for renewal road tax via online is http://www.myeg.com.my/


Its implementation so far in Malaysia are shown below:

  • Project Monitoring System (PMS)
  • Human Resource Management Information System (HRMI S)
  • Generic Office Environment (GOE)
  • Electronic Procurement (EP)
  • Electronic Serv ices (E-Services)
  • Electronic Labo ur Exchange (E LX)
  • E-Syariah

Citizen’s adoption strategies:

  • Trust.

Information provided in e-government must be accurate, relevant, timeliness and up-to-date which is available to the citizens. In addition, links provided must be related, appropriate and secured. As well as, application forms must be in appropriate format and downloadable by citizens.

  • Confidentiality.

The government must ensure that citizens’ personal data are secured and protected included financial and transactional data. Besides, government must have a strong security systems for electronic communications which is reliable, stable and up-to-date. So that citizens do not have to worry and put 100% of trust on e-government.


  • Awareness.

Government can do some advertisements and launch some events or programs in schools, colleges universities and at different places and states. By doing this, it can increase citizens’ knowledge and awareness of e-government site.

  • Informative.

Government must ensure that the content is informative and usefulness to citizens. So that they can understand its purposes and take it seriously. The most important is the content must be free from errors. Some guidance should be provided and must make it simple as some citizens are not computer literate.

  • Ease to use.

The government must ensure that the design for e-government is simple and nice which can acceptable by all citizens. The ability of accessing and performing tasks must be quick, efficient and effectiveness in order to satisfy customers satisfaction.


Eventually, e-government is helpful and convenient to citizens. It delivers services to the citizens of Malaysia efficiently and effectively via online. It also enable government to become more responsive to the needs of citizens. Then, e-government will become more successful and being primary used by citizens.

e-government is start running in malaysia. but i think many teenagers is not using e-gov. i think its useful for us. we all can try coz its saving out time and no need get traffic jam also

haha.for me i think e-gov is only suitable in big city like KL lo.
many "uncle" in small small village even don't know how to use a computer.
that is really a big trouble for them if ask them to pay tax or do any transaction online lo.
just like my "kampung", many uncle and aunty even don't know how to use cash deposit machine.
so i think e-gov will really hard for them lo.

malaysia implement e-gov??i dont think it will success lo. our technology is still "fresh". cant la. need put more effort first.
somemore,no much confident on the security system lo. how if my data or info hacked by other??

thanks for ur comment lulu. u should not worry bout the technology of Malaysia. although Malaysia still a developing country, the security system for the e-government is good. that is not a easy thing for other to hack and steal our citizen's data. be more confident with our country. be more confident on our government.
